Inerrancy of the Bible

"How am I supposed to take the Bible seriously if there are so many contradictions?" It's one of the most common objections raised against the Christian faith — and it deserves a serious, honest answer.

Join us for this Apologetics Month message as we tackle the doctrine of biblical inerrancy head-on, examining five of the most frequently cited "contradictions" in Scripture and discovering that the case for the Bible's trustworthiness is far stronger than its critics claim.

What Does Inerrancy Actually Mean?

Inerrancy means the Bible is "without error," asserting that Scripture is true in all that it affirms regarding theology, history, and science. This is not a blind leap of faith — it is a conclusion reached by examining the evidence to the standard of "beyond a reasonable doubt," the highest legal standard of proof in the U.S. justice system.

Five Challenges Examined:

• #1 — Two Creation Stories: Does Genesis contain two contradictory accounts of creation, or do they serve complementary theological purposes?

• #2 — Does God Forgive People? How do we reconcile 2 Kings 24:4 — "The LORD was not willing to forgive" — with the overwhelming biblical testimony of God's mercy, and the account of Manasseh's restoration in 2 Chronicles 33?

• #3 — What Did the Voice at Jesus' Baptism Say? Matthew, Mark, and Luke each record slightly different wording from the voice at Jesus' baptism. Are these contradictions, or do they reflect the distinct theological perspectives of eyewitness accounts?

• #4 — Conflicting Accounts of Paul's Journeys: Galatians and Acts appear to describe Paul's post-conversion travels differently. How do we account for these differences without dismissing either account?

• #5 — Faith vs. Works: Paul and James: Paul declares we are justified by faith and not by works (Romans 4, Ephesians 2). James declares that "a man is justified by works, and not by faith only" (James 2:24). Are these two apostles flatly contradicting each other — or are they addressing two entirely different questions?

This message will equip you to engage the hard questions with confidence, think critically and faithfully about Scripture, and defend the trustworthiness of God's Word with intellectual honesty and conviction.
